Winter School of Xcellence (WSoX)

Back for its ninth straight year, this program is all about technical development through repetition. There will be a topic each week, players will be broken up into small groups, and our coaches will run them through stations. These are intense and demanding sessions (hence the use of the word Xcellence).

Where? Lanco Fieldhouse
When? Saturday mornings, 9-noon. (except Jan 9th session, which is 8-11am)

1st hour - u9 though u11

2nd hour - u12 through u15

3rd hour - u16 and older

So, for example, a player on a u13 team should attend at 9am on Jan 9th, and then at 10am for all other dates.

Futsal is a game synonymous with many of the top players in the world today. It originated in South America, and is very much about skill, fast footwork, and speed of play. This club has long promoted the correlation between futsal and overall skill development. I cannot stress enough how important it is for our players to try to attend. Our futsal sessions are free play. There is no "coaching" involved, only supervision. We see it as the perfect compliment to our SoX sessions that are very much exercise driven. Here, the players come and just play. The PL coaches present will guide the participants on how to play correctly to maximize the effect, but otherwise it is street soccer style.

Where? The Nook
When? Sunday afternoons 4-7 pm
Jan 10th, 31st.  Feb 7th, 21st, 28th.

1st hour - u9 though u11
2nd hour - u12 through u14
3rd hour - u15 and older

Required:  Shinpads and flat soled shoes (no cleats).
Please do not bring a ball to Futsal.  Futsal balls will be provided.

Note:  Parking Passes are available at the sessions from Rossi and are good for all sessions.  Park your car using the the linked map for parking directions, then show the pass when exiting the parking area specified in the map.

In order to master any skill, it is necessary to sometimes break it down to the most fundamental element first and then practice that.  When it comes to technical expertise and comfort on the ball, we must backtrack to the player's first touch.  Before that is their balance and footwork before the ball even arrives.  This thought process is how this new program was born.  I have had many meetings with Jim Launer at The Nook about this subject, and we have come up with a soccer action specific training program.  It will work on conditioning for sure, plus injury prevention, but it will also focus on change of direction, foot speed, agility, balance, coordination, and posture.  All in all, it should prove to be an excellent program for any aspiring young footballer.

Basically, the premise for these clinics is that on random Thursdays during the winter, I will send out a notification to every player in the club that I will be holding a flash clinic on a certain skill or topic that weekend.   There will be a sign up link included and the first 20 players in each of the age groupings below will be in!  The topics and skills will be varied, and there may be some twists involved but it will be a fun hour of skill practice with the emphasis squarely on that skill.  Just sign up on the link provided in the Thursday email, and then bring the $5 to the session.

Where?  Lanco Fieldhouse
When?  Weekends in the winter (will never conflict with other club clinics)

1st hour - u9 though u11
2nd hour - u12 through u14
